10 years of television in German Democratic Republic
The GDR television service began experimental test broadcasts on 20 December 1951. Regular public programming, although still described as testing, began on 21 December 1952 –Joseph Stalin's birthday – with two hours a day of programmes. Continuity announcer Margit Schaumäker welcomed viewers at 20:00 and introduced the station's logo – the Brandenburg Gate. More information

Berlin Television Tower Berlin television tower was constructed between 1965–69 by the government of the German Democratic Republic. With its height of 368 metres (including antenna) it is the tallest structure in Germany. In addition to its main function as the location of several radio and television broadcasting stations, the building serves as a viewing tower with observation deck including a bar at a height of 203 metres, as well as a rotating restaurant. The tower is situated on the Wachwitzer Elbhöhen and serves as a transmitting tower for television and radio broadcasts. Due to its visibility over large distances and its unusual form, it has become a landmark of Dresden and the Elbe Valley.
Television tower Dequede It was built 1956–1959 as the first television tower in the GDR after the model of the Stuttgart TV tower made of reinforced concrete. The 184.5 meter high tower is not accessible to the public. More information in German Date of issue: 5 February 1980 Quantity: 8,000,000
