The first trial television broadcasts in Sweden were launched on October 29, 1954, from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The official launch of television in Sweden took place on September 4, 1956 when the Radiotjänst Television service was launched on the high power Nacka transmitter. Daily broadcasts started in 1957 and Radiotjänst was renamed as Sveriges Radio. It was reorganised and split into several new companies in 1979, one of which, Sveriges Television, now held total responsibility for television broadcasting. To celebrate half a century of television Swedish Postnord released a set of eight stamps on popular children's programs.More information Date of issue: 30 September 2006
Sveriges Radio (Swedish Radio) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1974 with the release of two stamps, one of them on television: television camera at Parliamentary debate.
